Summary

PRICES

£25

Consultation fee including otoscopy and personalised hearing screening assessment. This needs to be paid before the appointment.

£40

for ear wax removal of one ear

£50

for ear wax removal of both ears
Start using eardrops
Once booked, we’ll ask you to start using olive oil ear drops three to four times daily for up to five days prior to your appointment to soften your ear wax and increase the chances of a successful microsuction. There are some cases where this is not a good idea - for example if you have a history of perforated eardrum - however this can be discussed in more detail at the time of booking your appointment. A history of perforated eardrum does NOT prevent you from having wax removed by microsuction. Using ear drops before your appointment makes removal much easier and quicker. If your clinician can’t remove all the wax, they’ll advise you on what to do next.
Attend your appointment

The appointment itself will last around 30 minutes. Your clinician will run through some questions, talk you through the process and make sure you’re happy to proceed.

They will use the Tympa camera to look inside your ear, before proceeding to remove any excess earwax. They’ll also take pictures and videos, as this can be useful for comparisons in the future.

The sound of the earwax removal device can take a little getting used to if it’s your first time. Your clinician will show you beforehand, so you know what to expect. Having something in your ear can feel odd, but it shouldn’t hurt.
Once done, a hearing screening assessment will be carried out.

What happens next?

If the wax removal was unsuccessful, your clinician will ask you to use olive oil drops for a week before re-booking a return appointment. There is a limit of one follow-up appointment. If wax removal is unsuccessful again then your clinician will discuss further management.

If there’s no wax to remove then a £25 consultation fee will apply which will include the hearing screening assessment.

Being independent prescribers, our clinicians may prescribe further treatment if needed, or advise you to see a GP who could arrange a referral to a specialist.

Our “Remote Review” feature also allows access to remote advice and guidance from Audiologists and ENT specialist surgeons, if a second opinion is required.

This may be if you have symptoms of excess earwax but no earwax to remove, so your ears can be checked for other causes.
